Dorian is Found: Prologue to The Scar of the Necromancer:

I’ve been invited to stay in both heaven and hell, but politely declined. The tragedy of eternal suffering is unforgiving; it is cold and despair, a terrible dream that one cannot escape. Hell is a trap for the enslaved, for they know not their imprisonment. Heaven is pure divinity that bursts one’s heart open with love. Such rapture envelops one’s soul so completely that there is no longing or fear. It is bliss beyond description. But I don’t belong in either. My faith in life is the sweetest gift. Though it can be harsh and cruel, it is also gracefully benign. There is redemption in life, even for the most wicked and unclean. Of this I know is true, for I am evil yet a savior of souls.
